Frequently Asked Questions
Is your adoption a gift?
Adoptions are a great gift for every animal lover! Simply complete the gift portion on the adoption form to let us know whose name to print on the certificate and their email.
Looking for an extra special birthday gift? Choose the “Birthday” option to include a birthday button to wear and one additional free admission to visit the zoo during the open season!
Can I receive my photo, certificate, and Keeper Notes in the mail?
In an effort to use less paper and enable as much of your generous donation to be used for the animals as possible, we are currently only sending your goodies via email. Your email will never be used or shared.
How long will it take to receive the email with my adoption benefits?
Please allow 5-7 business days to confirm your donation and information, as well as gather and send your adoption benefits after your donation has been received.
Do I get to take the animal home with me?
No, but we appreciate your symbolic adoption. This enables our caretakers to continue to provide the necessary care at the zoo so you can come and visit in a safe and fun environment as often as you can!
Will anyone else adopt this animal?
Yes. The saying “it takes a village” applies here too! It takes the support of more than one adoption to feed and care for all of Wilderness Walk’s residents all year.
Can I name my adopted animal?
Each of our animals have names, which will be included on your printable PDF adoption certificate and in your “Animal Factsheet and Bio” via email.
May I adopt in person or over the phone?
No. In order to make sure everyone’s adoption form and information is not lost, all adoption forms must be completed via email, online form or mail-in, and adoption fee through Venmo or mail-in in the form of a check. We also will be sending your adoption benefits via email unless otherwise stated.
How long does my adoption last?
Each adoption lasts for one month, but our entire zoo family would love to have your continued support. You can choose to “adopt” another animal each month to continue your support!
Is the “Adopt an Animal” program only during the zoo’s open season?
No. Although our open season only runs from mid-May through Labor Day, our animals require care, feed, and enrichment 365 days a year. The adoption program runs every month for the entire year, giving you a glimpse of the zoo in the offseason through your adopted animal’s Keeper Notes and photo.
Can I have multiple recipient names on my adoption certificate?
No, each animal needs the care and support of multiple adoptions. Therefore, only one name will be printed on the certificate.
Is my gift tax deductible?
No.
